Defence vacates spectrum, objects on BSNL 3G

The Defence Ministry has released 10 Mhz of 3G spectrum in the frequency band of 1069-1979 Mhz out of total 20 MHz it has to release as per MoU with DoT.

DoT is asking for frequency bands between 1,920 Mhz and 1,980 Mhz for the auction but defence ministry has denied to vacate spectru from this band as it is being used by Defence. The defence ministry is willing to give frequency between 1,950 Mhz to 1,970 Mhz.

Defence has also raised objection on the allocated frequency band of 3G spectrum to BSNL. As per Financial Express in its letter to DoT , Defence has mentioned that in respect of 3G spectrum for BSNL and MTNL (as appear on the revised Information Memorandum) spectrum allocated in five states -- Punjab, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar and Assam falls outside the coordinated band of 1954-1979 Mhz not in the 1969-1979 Mhz, released by defence ministry.
