3g spectrum auction by March: A Raja

Telecoms minister A Raja on Tuesday said it is possible to hold the auctions for third generation (3G) spectrum by March 31. This
contradicts the finance ministry's stance in the interim budget that auctions for the airwaves will happen only in the next fiscal.

3G spectrum is vital for telcos to offer high-end services such as video conferencing on mobile, ultra fast internet and interactive gaming amongst others.

"We have time till March 31. I do believe there are chances of completing the process before this," Mr Raja said at an e-Governance function in the capital. He also said that the code of conduct for the upcoming general elections, which comes into force with the announcement of election dates, will not be applicable to these auctions.
